Main Royal Palace of the Joseon Dynasty : Gyeongbokgung (경복궁)
Completed in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace is the first palace of the Joseon Dynasty. It is the most important place among the palaces where the king stays.
In front of Gwanghwamun, the main gate of the palace, there was Yukjo Street, the center of politics and economy.
Yukjo Street is Sejong-daero, where the statues of King Sejong the Great and Admiral Yi Sun-sin are currently located.
Gyeongbokgung Palace was destroyed by fire during the Japanese invasion (Imjin War) in 1592 and has not been restored for over 270 years. Then, in 1867, it was rebuilt under the initiative of Heungseon Daewongun, the father of King Gojong.
A full-scale restoration project has been underway since 1990, and the Japanese colonial era buildings have been demolished and restored to their original state.
There is also a wonderful changing of the guard ceremony at 10:00 and 14:00, so be sure to watch it.

조선의 첫 궁궐 : 경복궁 景福宮
1395년에 완성된 경복궁은 조선왕조의 첫 번째 궁전입니다. 왕이 머무는 궁궐 가운데 으뜸이 되는 곳입니다.
궁궐 정문인 광화문 앞에는 정치와 경제의 중심인 육조거리가 있었습니다. 육조거리는 현재 세종대왕과 이순신 장군 동상이 있는 세종대로입니다.
경복궁은 1592년의 일본 침략 (임진왜란)으로 모두 불타 무너져 270여 년간 복구되지 못했습니다. 그러다 1867년 고종의 아버지인 흥선대원군의 주도로 다시 재건되었습니다.
1990년부터 본격적인 복원 사업이 진행되어 일제시대 건물 등을 철거하고 본래 모습으로 복원하고 있습니다. 10:00, 14:00에는 멋진 수문장 교대의식도 있으니 꼭 관람해보세요.
